1.) How would you word or add a relevant question or summary…

1.) How would you word or add a relevant question or summary supporting these two posts in narrowing the investigative focus for their topic/issue?

REFERENCE A- “social factors that contribute to and perpetuate addiction” as a social science issue to investigate. The two relevant questions that social science professionals may be interested in read as the following;

What psychological issues are related to recovering in a society that encourages addictive behavior?
What issues in society push people toward addiction?

The first question is because I’ve known many people who’ve tried to recover from addictions in harmful environments and had a more challenging time getting help because of their environment and culture. I hope to enlighten people on the psychological aspects that come alongside addiction and the struggles that come from seeking to recover in a challenging environment. I chose the second question because it is the most straightforward question that leads to the most potentially valuable answers. I think pinpointing the exact issues can lead society to make conscious decisions that could minimize addiction in an area. I find this topic relevant because I’ve had multiple family members and friends struggle with addictions, I lived in one of the highest cities for opioid addiction in the country, and my dad worked directly with an addictions and recovery ministry for several years. If addiction is viewed as an illness rather than a series of bad decisions, it can help others to encourage those seeking recovery. I hope this study can potentially minimize the behaviors and aspects in society that push people toward addiction and encourage people to be kind to those struggling.

REFERENCE B-The issue I chose to research is social factors that contribute to and perpetuate addiction.  I chose this topic because it is deeply personal to me. My son has struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse. I would like to understand these two factors’ role in my son’s addiction. I hope that if I could learn more about which of these factors is a cause and which is the result, it might help treat both. I also have in my family a history of alcoholism. I want to research whether the occurrence of addiction to alcohol in a family is likely to be the result of genetic factors or whether it could be influenced by the social interaction that my family members have had with one another.

I chose to research these topics from the viewpoint of a psychologist because that is my chosen field of study. The two questions that I selected are:

1)How relevant is addiction in family history to whether or not a person develops addiction?

2) What is the role of depression and anxiety disorders in substance abuse and addiction?
