You will view the documentary (a little over 50 minutes long) and complete/answer the following. Your responses should be a minimum of 100 words for each question. This assignment requires some thought, and you will use your critical thinking skills. *** Read the chapter first, and find questions to include material from the chapter about discrimination and other relevant topics (include in-text citations and the full textbook reference at the end of any questions you use material). There are 6 questions.

1) Write one paragraph (or two if necessary) summarizing the video. Make sure you cover all sections. This includes the activities done in the prison setting and the reunion.* This is not the question to offer your opinion on it (that comes later) – just review what it entailed. This question is worth 2 points.

2) Did any part of the film surprise you? Do you think anyone of a different race, ethnicity or religion would also find that to be surprising? Elaborate This is worth 1.5points

3) Do you think similar exercises could be done today in our classrooms? Why or why not? This is worth 1.5 points

4) Notice the children’s body language. Give me specific examples of what you saw (rather than say “they looked sad” – describe the body language, for example, slumped shoulders). What did it indicate about the impact of discrimination? This question is worth 1.5

5) How did the negative and positive labels placed on a group become self-fulfilling prophecies? A self-fulfilling prophecy is when a person holds a belief and sort of makes it come true. Give the specific example from the video (hint- it involves test scores). Can you think of any examples in our society today where this plays out? This question is worth 2 points

6) What were your overall impressions of the documentary? This question is worth 1.5 points.
