I need to create learning objectives based on the TEKS for the lesson. The book I am doing my lesson on is called BIG by Vashti Harrison. This book centers around a young black girl who loves ballet and faces challenges related to body image and societal expectations. The story shows the little girl have her spirit crushed by the hurtful words and expectations of others for her to fit into the “cookie cutter” mold of the other girls. At the point of her feeling her lowest, she suddenly realizes she is much better than what everyone is making her believe and can shed the feelings of worthlessness so she can enjoy her love of ballet again. She shows how even though she explained to people how their words made her feel, not everyone was willing to hold themselves accountable and some even blamed her for being too sensitive. She tells everyone she is not interested in changing who she is and she becomes happy again. This story explores themes of self-acceptance and resilience, teaching children the importance of overcoming external judgments and developing a positive body image. Rather than focus on the obstacles others try to impose, the book encourages children to pursue their passions and spotlights the idea of how your worth is not determined by physical appearance. BIG promotes celebrating uniqueness while tackling relevant issues related to body image and self-acceptance, all while delivering a valuable message for children from diverse backgrounds. The sensitively of this book addresses these topics, while empowering young readers to find and embrace their individuality so they can pursue their passions confidently. The TEKS I am wanting to use are:1.1AListen actively, ask relevant questions to clarify information, and answer questions using multi-word responses.1.1BFollow, restate, and give oral instructions that involve a short, related sequence of actions.1.1CShare information and ideas about the topic under discussion, speaking clearly at an appropriate pace and using the conventions of language.1.1DWork collaboratively with others by following agreed-upon rules for discussion, including listening to others, speaking when recognized, and making appropriate contributions.and possibly also1.1EDevelop social communication such as introducing himself/herself and others, relating experiences to a classmate, and expressing needs and feelings.I am not quite sure if the last one will be pushing the lesson over the edge. How can I create 2-3 learning objectives from these TEKS, while explaining how the learning objectives are centered around the book?Social SciencePsychology
