GENERAL INFORMATION:

Test catalogs, manuals, reviews and published research on psychological tests can help prospective users make informed choices about testing instruments and procedures. Questions are asked such as, “Is this test appropriate for use in employee selection?” “Does this test have predictive validity?” “What is an appropriate measure of some psychological construct?” Test users need to use more than their gut feeling; they need facts!

YOUR HOMEWORK:

Your task is to select a single test or technique that could be used to measure or evaluate this construct. The test you choose must be the most recent version of that test. For example, if you choose the MMPI (originally published in 1940), then be sure your assignment examines the MMPI-2, which was published in 1989. The Valdosta State University library has a number of online resources for investigating psychologist tests: Tests in Print V (TIP V), Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY), and PsycINFO.

Requirements for this assignment:

1. For this assignment, you may choose a psychological construct/disorder that interests you.

2. Begin by investigating recent research on this topic to ascertain how the construct is being assessed. Use the construct as a key term in your search. You should view a variety of articles including reviews, original research, and discussion papers in order to find a test or technique that measures/evaluates your construct of interest.

3. Locate the most recent entry for your test in the MMY. Write the volume number of the MMY and copy the entry through the critical review(s) (you usually have to scroll down on the web page to find the review, and please exclude the list of references in your copy/paste) in the worksheet file for this assignment. VSU’s library has an “Educational and Psychological Tests and Measures” page https://libguides.valdosta.edu/c.php?g=18479 that allows MMY access. At the top of the page, click on the tab “Finding Test Reviews” and then scroll down to “Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print.”

4. Go to the library guide page for Psychology & Counseling https://libguides.valdosta.edu/psychology and use the databases listed in the Psychology & Counseling Databases pane (i.e., PsycINFO, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection, and/or PsycARTICLES) to locate two article abstracts related to this construct (no dissertation abstracts). You may also want to search and/or examine the ERIC Clearinghouse website http://ericae.net/ on Assessment and Evaluation.

5. Complete the exercise worksheet in this section from the information available in MMY. The exercise worksheet is a fillable and savable pdf form; students should type their answers into the form to submit as part of this assignment.

6. Submit the exercise worksheet, MMY review, and two article abstracts to the assignment

Uploaded is the exercise worksheet.
