 The Social and Cultural Diversity Analysis (1,000-1,250 words) requires the student to identify and reflect on possible personal biases regarding cultural identity: gender, religion, sexual or gender orientation, race, ethnicity, national origin, socioeconomic or disability status. 

Refer to the cultural identity concepts covered in your Topic 4 Cultural Genogram assignment to help develop Part 1 of this assignment.

When constructing this analysis, including a three-part structure according to the following:

Part One: Personal History With Discrimination

The first part of the analysis requires you to identify information from your own personal history. 

Use the following prompts in your reflection:

Identify your personal biases and how they will impact your counseling approach. Remember, everyone has biases. 

The point is to become aware of your personal biases so as not to project them onto your clients. 

 

Describe your personal history by documenting experiences with

If you have not had any such experiences, share why you believe you have not experienced discrimination in relation to the following cultural identities: gender, religion, sexual or gender orientation, race, socioeconomic status, disability status, or culture.

Part Two:

 Reflections of Racism/Discrimination

The second part of the paper requires you to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of racism/discrimination. Use the following questions to help guide your reflections:

2. Why could there be significant differences in perceptions and values of members within the same ethnic group? Be specific.

Part Three: Applying Ethics and Cultural Identity

The third part of your analysis requires you to reflect on your cultural identity and the ACA (American Counseling Association) or ASCA (American School Counselor Association) code of 

 

Ethics regarding how it will inform your future practice. Please use the code of ethics related to your program and professional identity. To successfully answer the following statements or questions, please use the corresponding numbers in your response:

 

1. Identify and cite the specific multicultural codes found in the ACA or ASCA ethical codes you will use to inform your future practice. Please explain, considering your own cultural identity awareness.

2. How would you apply the ethical code considerations in your treatment planning to be culturally sensitive? How would this inform your referral process?

4. Cite resources you can use to dispel your personal biases and to become more culturally responsive and sensitive.
