The definition for classical conditioning in the textbook is “A type of learned response in which a neutral object comes to elicit a response when it is associated with a stimulus that already produces a response.” (Pg 198) And then there is also unconditional response, which is a response that does not have to be learned, like reflexes that we have. I found these interesting because I knew of them but didn’t know the correct term for them. Chapter 6 also went over positive and negative reinforcement, which I found useful because it stated the difference between a reinforcement and a punishment. So there is positive reinforcement and punishments as well as negative reinforcement and punishment. The difference between the two is positive reinforcement= something is added to increase the likelihood of a behavior while a positive punishment = something is added to decrease the likelihood of a behavior and vice versa for negative, instead of adding it is removed. And the most effective way to teach people or even pets new behavior is through positive reinforcement. In chapter 7 after reading I found interesting, was the concept of memory and the different views. There’s encoding, storage, and retrieval when it comes to memory. I also found the three stage process of memory interesting and new. Sensory memory, short term memory and long term. I was aware of short and long term memory but the definition and meaning of sensory memory was new to me. Sensory memory is the immediate, initial recording of sensory information in the memory system, something that is less than a second for example the sound of someones voice.  After reading these chapters, I thought it would be a good idea to start journaling and having physical photos of memories. I work with kids during summer and I created a summer adventure book for them with pictures of our times and adventures together. For them to physically see what we did and to look back it after summer is over. I thought to myself why not have something like that for myself, to keep track of my memories. In chapter 6 the textbook discussed classical and operant conditioning.
