Case study 4

Maureen is a 36-year old women who has two children under the age of 6. Her wife and her have stable jobs that have some built in flexibility for working from home.  Recently, one of her daughters has been exhibiting behavioural issues at school and she keeps getting calls from the school to come pick her up from school. This has been really hard on Maureen because she is worried about her daughter, but she has also been missing a lot of work due to constant illnesses the children bring home from school and now these calls to get her daughter from school. Recently, her boss announced that all employees have to go back to work in the office 2-3 days per week. This means Maureen will not have the flexibility to stay home with the kids when they are sick and she will have to take time off work if she gets a call to get her daughter from school. Maureen is feeling incredibly fidgety, tired, and anxious. She can’t stop worrying about how she will manage all of this. She fears she might loose her job. She feels lost and like she can’t cope with the stress of this situation. With the encouragement of her wife, she has decided to see a health psychologist to try to reduce her stress.

Note: Use APA 7th Edition to cite your work. Students are expected to include in-text citations in their responses and provide a reference list after their response. Any time you are writing something that you have read or learned from another source, that source should be cited. It’s always safer to over cite rather than under-cite. Provide peer-reviewed scientific evidence to substantiate your answers where requested. For example, if you are going to modify X by manipulating Y, find a scientific paper that showed there was a relationship between x and y (or similar variables). In another example, if you are strongly focusing on one form of coping compared to others, find scientific evidence to suggest that that form of coping is more robustly linked to better outcomes compared to others.
