Taking the content of social work core coursework and the issues that may arise has allowed me to understand how important the rights of an individual are.  It has also taught me not to cross barriers that take away the rights of an individual.  The past semester has taught me how to translate findings into documentation.      The theories have brought awareness to real-life situations and the importance of analyzing situations using facts, not assumptions. I used Cognitive Behavior Theory (CBT) during an interview with my mentor.  This theory focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, encouraging clients to identify patterns of irrational and self-destructive thoughts and behaviors that impact emotions.  Incorporating this theory into the interview enabled the client to change her behavior and way of thinking so she could process her feelings. The family life circle theory is an emotional and intellectual stage you pass through from childhood to retirement as a family member.  In this theory, you will face challenges in your family that will allow you to build or gain new skills.  While interviewing this client using this theory, the changes that she was experiencing were intersecting with everyone in the room.  My mentor and I worked together with the client to assess her needs by supplying resources for receiving therapy, housing assistance, and resources for her to take co-parenting classes with the father.Social SciencePsychology
