Need to answer these questions for my research proposal (below):

Is schema therapy an effective treatment for those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?

I already have answers for these questions I just want to make sure I’m on the right track. Ty! 🙂

Research Questions

What is (are) the research question(s)? Why is this research question important?
What research design will help answer your questions and why? (See Heppner et al., Chapter 6: Descriptive lab, Descriptive field design? Experimental lab design? Experimental field design?)
For quantitative:
What is the researcher’s hypothesis? What is the null hypothesis?
What variables are you planning to explore?
How will you measure these variables? (in other words, what formal scale could you use to specifically measure this variable?)
How will this research investigation contribute to the field of counseling?

MY RESEARCH PROPOAL IS BELOW:

Type of Experimental Design

My quantitative research study will be an experimental, between-subjects design.

Participants

The participants of my study will be adults between the ages of 18-65 who have been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This is a specific target population which helps ensure the results are relevant to the population being studied and is of critical importance.

Methodology

My study will use a between-subjects design during which participants will be randomly assigned to either the control or experimental group (i.e., the schema therapy treatment group). The research question I am seeking is as follows: Is schema therapy an effective treatment for those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)? My research design outlined here is an experimental design which means that my study will involve random assignment of participants to either a control or an experimental group. The experimental group will receive schema therapy treatment and the control group will not receive any treatment.

Data Collection

The data collection methods for my study will involve a combination of self-report questionnaires and structured clinical interviews. The self-report questionnaires will include the Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC-40) and Trauma Symptom Inventory-2 (TSI-2). The structured clinical interviews will include the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5) PTSD Symptom Scale – Interview for DSM-5 and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID). By using multiple data collection methods, I will be able to explore, at least from a quantitative perspective, the effectiveness of schema therapy for PTSD.

Data Analysis

In my study, the instruments used will include the Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC-40) and Trauma Symptom Inventory-2 (TSI-2). The structured clinical interviews will include the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS-5), the PTSD Symptom Scale – Interview for DSM-5 (PSS-I-5 – a semi-structured interview) and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID). I will need to calculate the Cronbach’s alpha value for each instrument separately, since they will each need to have their own value. In the future I could add an additional instrument and examine patient feedback to measure the effectiveness of treatment if I wanted to extend my research into treatment adherence and/or overall treatment satisfaction.
