Refer to the Acorn College Curriculum Page section ‘What our curriculum encompasses’ and outline a minimum of three (3) principles of holistic and individual centred care.

Here the text. Can’t see very well the principles. Need a bit help.

Our primary view is that a holistic approach to learning is paramount to a successful education. Embedded within our eight learning areas are our four capabilities. Capabilities represent knowledge, attributes and skills that will be taught within learning areas without being defined by learning areas.

Our 8 Learning Areas guide our subject selection for the whole school curriculum. The team at Acorn College base subjects on changing / growing trends, current needs to meet employment demand, our changing global community, interests and of course board subjects chosen by the State.

When developing the school curriculum, we apply flexibility to not only meet the content requirements of the State curriculum but to ensure we design a curriculum that is innovative, utilises available resources and is able to meet the learning needs of our school body.

In a holistic learning model, we cannot ignore the benefits extracurricular activities provide by ensuring a balance between in class subject learning and out of class activities such as school camps, excursions, incursions and social events. Many of our Capabilities are embedded within such events and provide a whole of school experience.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture, Australia’s growing relationship with Asia and a global focus on Sustainability are all integral parts of our curriculum and are embedded within many subject areas as well as the four Capabilities.

At Acorn College our curriculum planning is based on the underpinning belief that every child wants to and has the right to learn. With this core principle, our students and their needs remain solid as the focus of Acorn’s curriculum design.

Our primary goal is to offer an inclusive and whole of school approach to learning with the aim to equip students with the necessary skills, attributes and knowledge to transition from school to work or further study and move from childhood to adulthood.

Relevant and quality curriculum, combined with well trained and dedicated teaching staff delivering effective and student focused learning has been proven to be the key to student improvement and success in schools.

To ensure Acorn meets this proven formula for effective learning ad desired outcomes, we have adopted eight key learning areas and four capabilities on which our curriculum is guided in its implementation.
