You may also provide suggestions or resources to address a challenge your colleague has identified. Human behavior and social environment (HBSE) emphasizes the importance of understanding a client and their behavior through their environment. According to Zastrow et al. (2019), a person’s environment and their experiences shape how they think, the way they view the world, along with their behavior. As a social worker, using the HBSE approach in engaging with, assessing, and providing intervention for Ray will focus on his biopsychosocial assessment. This approach explores the levels of functioning of a client within their biological, psychological, and social dimensions. Engaging with Ray will involve gathering information about how he feels about the loss of George, his view of the world, and how the loss has affected his life in general. As such, the approach can help in the engagement, assessment, and intervening for Ray’s case.            First, when assessing Ray’s case, the biological components include aspects such as his lifestyle, overall health, substance use, physical abilities, and genetic vulnerabilities among other factors (Zastrow et al., 2019). Ray’s main problem is his lifestyle. He shows up for work drunk. However, there are no concerns about his physical health. The main concern is his use of alcohol, which may have implications on his physical health. Second, the psychological components include mental health issues, attitudes, emotions, and coping skills. Ray exhibits symptoms of depression. He has lost interest in his job and uses alcohol as a coping mechanism for his emotional breakdown. The unhealthy behaviors are a serious threat to his physical health and mental state. Third, the social component focus on Ray’s relationship with family, friends, and co-workers. Clearly, his relationship with his family and co-workers is not good. He lives alone with a rescue dog. This may also have implications on his mental and physical health.            Based on the assessment, the best intervention is recommending a psychotherapy. According to Tynes et al. (2019), psychotherapy is an effective intervention for depression and anxiety. Ray’s view of the world may be distorted by his experience and loss. Psychotherapy will help change his perception of the trauma and help develop new coping mechanisms for his stress and depression. This will help improve his health and mental state, while also changing his lifestyle. As a social worker, I may not have the necessary skills to conduct a psychotherapy. I may need additional support from psychotherapists to help Ray cope with his situation. I may decide to recommend Ray to group therapy or recommend a specialized psychotherapists to help with his recovery.Social SciencePsychology
