The social development theory (SDT) is a motivation theory that is predicated on the concept that individuals are born with an inbuilt desire for autonomy and competence. The hypothesis states that when these requirements are addressed, individuals have a greater chance of being more motivated and involved in the activities and tasks that they are participating in. The Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and the three basic demands it is founded on, namely autonomy, competence, and relatedness, will be the first thing I discuss when I give this presentation. In order to demonstrate these three requirements, I will use examples that are appropriate for college students and entertaining to them. For instance, I will explain that the need to have control over one’s own life is synonymous with autonomy, and that the need to feel competent and effective is synonymous with the need to feel capable and efficient. After that, I will discuss the idea of relatedness, sometimes known as the requirement to experience a sense of connection to other people.The next part of this lecture will focus on the application of SDT to students in higher education. I will illustrate that when students in higher education have their fundamental requirements addressed, they are in a better position to be motivated and interested in their academic work. I will demonstrate to the students, through activities such as goal-setting, taking the initiative, and cultivating meaningful relationships, how they might fulfill their most fundamental need. In the last part of this article, I will talk about the ways in which SDT may assist college students in both their academic and personal life. I will describe how using SDT can assist students in maintaining their motivation, participating in meaningful activities, and developing relationships with one another. In addition to that, I will offer specific recommendations and methods for how college students can make the most of SDT in their academic careers. As a way to wrap off this talk, I’m going to provide a high-level overview of the SDT framework and discuss how it might be applied to assist students in higher education. In order to be successful and driven, it is essential to recognize and fulfill one’s fundamental requirements. I will underline the significance of this concept. I will also invite people in the audience to ask questions and participate in the discussion so that they have the opportunity to interact and share their ideas. It is my aim that by the time I have finished presenting, the audience will have gained a deeper comprehension of the idea behind SDT and how it may be implemented to support college students in remaining motivated and involved in their studies.Social SciencePsychology
