The need to understand how culture influences interpersonal communication is greater than ever. There are essential demographic, technological, economic, peace and interpersonal reasons we need to develop intercultural communication competence. For now, think about the many practical reasons to study intercultural communication. Cross-cultural experiences are all around us – at school, work, play, in our intimate relationships, neighborhoods and the media we consume.  Consider the demographic need to deal with cultural differences more effectively. The “browning of America” represents a an important reason to develop intercultural competence.
